Brief summary

Addressing climate change in cities must go hand in hand with protecting mental health. This week, our project partner African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) convened a stakeholder engagement meeting focused on translating evidence into action on climate-related risks and mental health in urban informal settings.

Bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Health, Kenya; researchers; Nairobi and Kisumu County representatives; and community-based co-researchers, the workshop created space to engage deeply with emerging insights from the WEMA project. Discussions explored:

- Climate–mental health pathways and how environmental stressors affect wellbeing

- New data from prevalence surveys conducted highlighting mental health issues affecting the communities

- Lived experiences from communities navigating compounding climate risks

Beyond evidence sharing, the meeting also focused on identifying priority policy issues, co-developing intervention pathways to help address the issues.
